Again my ISP was experiencing issues with internet access all week. They're going to send a signal technician out this Friday. I hope so, this is getting ridiculous. I'm thinking out changing my ISP to Verizon DSL for $29.95 a month, compared to my current rate at Road Runner at $44.95 a month.

March 27, 2003    11:25am EST
My ISP was experiencing issues with internet access today. My site was down for that reason. I took advantage of cleaning up.

It's now seven in the evening. It took a week, but I've learned how use Dreamweaver MX and Swish v2.0. Alot of trial and errors, but I did it. All Flash animations were completely made by me. Swish is easy to use. As you can see, it took a week to learn and make the first page. I have to say Dreamweaver is much better than Frontpage.

The cable modem I had stopped working. The PC light was not on. My router could not make the connection. I then plugged the cable modem into the directly into the PC, still not working. I had to return my leased cable modem back to my original ISP. They gave me a new one. It's now working.

November 2, 2002    8:10pm EST
I had change out my PC server. The other one was acting up. It would blue screen on me every other day. Pain in the butt.

July 26, 2002    2:45pm EST
A minor disaster happened last night at 7:20pm a lightning hit one of the transformers outside my house. What a BOOM!!! As you know what could have happened, happened. My NIC card blew. I had to buy another NIC card today. I got the NIC card. It was $20. made by Network Everywhere. The driver disk that came with the card was unreadable. It's a good thing my wife has a computer and I was able to get out on the internet and download the drivers. Pain in the butt. Remember, stand by God and God will stand by you.

A funny thing, I have an APC UPS (uninterrupted power source) device. The Back-UPS 350 model to be exact. I paid $80. Why didn't it work. When I got my server PC it was already re-booting. There was no power in the neighborhood, let alone the house. But I would have thought the server PC would be running. Maybe it was the huge BOOM that caused it. Otherwise, we had power surges, quick power glitches, the server PC would still be running. But I did get 15 to 20 minutes out of it.

God bless.

I've corrected the problem for my failing DNS server. I corrected in two ways. The problem was every two days my IP Address would change. A friend suggested that I change my MAC address on my Linksys router. It hasn't changed yet, so it helped a bit. Then I discovered a site where I could direct my domain name to another nameserver instead of using my home based DNS server. Since directNIC would take 48 hours to update its nameserver to point my domain (DNS Cache). This other site would take 5 minutes. It also worked with my dynamic IP auto update client application (DirectUpdate). That means my IP address would follow my domain names automatically. I used their dDNS service. This cuts down or eliminates the 'downtime' between the switch from one IP to another. I used ns1.changeip.com and ns2.changeip.com for my nameservers with directNIC. Go to changeIP to find out more.

May 12, 2002    3:00pm EST
I've got a problem with the domain name server at www.directnic.com. I've had my dynamic IP Address changed twice since I registered my domain name. I did setup my home based DNS server. I have to supply my DNS server IP Address with directnic.com and it takes 24 to 72 hours for the IP Address to replicate or be assigned with them (dierctnic) every time my IP address changes. Therefore, the more my dynamic IP changes the longer it takes for my IP to point to www.joopdog.com, I'll need a static IP soon. So my DNS server is fine and it's working but directnic.com takes awhile for it to replicate, which kinda sucks. Read on below so you can use the backdoor IP address.

Here's some of their explanation of why it takes so long:

  • How do I modify nameserver information for my domains?
You can use any valid nameserver when registering with directNIC. You fully control the information related to your domain. You may use your own nameservers and your own facilities to host your domains, as long as your name servers are registered and they have a valid host record.

Please allow up to 48 hours for nameserver changes to take effect.

IP address stands for Internet Protocol, this is the number your server or computer is assigned by the network you are on (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx).FQDN stands for Fully Qualified Domain Name which, essentially is the nameserver itself (ns0.domainname.com). Basically, when registering a nameserver you are associating your FQDN with the IP for your server in the Global Registry, http://www.verisign-grs.com/
  • I made a change to my host record, but the domain still points to the old IP address. Why?
Most nameservers cache domain name information. If you request the address for www.yourname.com and then change the IP address in the A record for www.yourname.com, your ISP's nameserver will already have cached the information from the previous request. Until your ISP's nameserver expires the information, it will continue to appear to point to the old IP address. directNIC's nameservers set the cache time (TTL) to the standard 24 hours.
  • Do you offer Dynamic DNS service?
At this time, directNIC does not offer any dynamic DNS service.
  • What is DNS and what will it let me do?
The Domain Name System (DNS) lets you host your own web server and mail server for your domain name. Using a DNS service, such as directNIC's directDNS service, and a web server on your own computer, you can set www.yourdomain.com to be hosted on your computer, instead of using a commercial or free hosting service. Note, however, you must be running a web server, such as Apache.
  • What is an A record?
An A record is the most common type of DNS resource record. It tells a DNS server what IP address to map a host name to. With an A record, you can set www.yourname.com to point a specific IP address.
  • What is a CNAME? Does directNIC support CNAME?
Yes, directNIC supports CNAMEs with the directDNS service.

A CNAME record is a domain alias, and points a host name to another host name. Our interface automatically chooses whether a record is a CNAME or an A record based on the type of data you supply. If you type in an IP, it's an A record. If you type in another host name (www.cnn.com), the record is set as a CNAME.

Here's are some backdoor names to get to my website. Since these website names get updated immediately (Bookmark these as well):

It's official, I finally registered www.joopdog.com!! It working!!! I registered at www.directnic.com. I did it because the site is running stable and fairly well. The Apache webserver is a problem free application server. I've also created a DNS server or name server.

April 4, 2002    4:50pm EST
The Mail server is working great. This time I'm really studying for the MCSE 2K. I've got an Exam Cram Study Book for Win2K Professional (70-210). I only need a score of 620 out of 1000. What a difference compared to Cisco's 849. Well, I better get to back to studying.

God Bless

February 21, 2002    10:45am EST Mail Server
I've found this wonderful Email server called Mail Enable Professional. Mail Enable is a enterprise level mail server for Windows 2000/NT/XP. It supports SMTP and POP3, supports an unlimited amount of email addresses, domains, groups and mailing lists. Extremely easy to use and configure, it allows you to provide cost-effective email services. And most importantly, it's FREE!!! Download this mail server for Windows 2000/NT that supports SMTP, POP3, an unlimited amount of addresses, and more. I love this email server. They'll have some documents on setup. But, here's my understanding or concept of this Mail Server.

God Bless

Another year has past. I haven't any problems since I've gone to the Apache Webserver. It was a tough year for everyone. Company downsizing, lay-offs, low interest rates, crashed internet stocks. And don't forget Sept 11th. It was tough on everyone. I pray to God that this year is much better for everyone. Stand by God and God will stand by you.

God bless everyone.

I found it. The Apache. This is a great web Server, it's easy to configure and use. And best of all, it's free!!! Don't get me wrong I liked the Microsoft IIS 5.0 server. But you can't beat FREE. Also there was too many security issues. It seems like everyone was taking pop shots at Microsoft by writing viruses and worms to attack their IIS web servers. What makes Apache nice is it can be used on Windows, such as Windows 95/98, ME , NT, 2000, and perhaps Windows XP. You can download the Windows Version (Win32) from this link (Windows 2000 and Windows 9x).

Again, I got the insidious virus the Code Red Virus Version 2, this time and the NimBA Virus. And again I had the rebuilt my system. It was a nightmare!!! Time for another Web Server.

As I was driving to work I heard on the radio that a jetliner plane crashed into the World Trade Towers (WTC). I said to myself "No F%#@ way!!! How could the pilot make that mistake?". When I got to work at 8:57am, I didn't tell anybody because I was still in shocked at what happened. When the second plane hit the WTC that's when I knew, we are being attacked!!! Attacked by freaking cowards!!! Cowards that don't want freedom.

People come to America wanting freedom, a freewill to do things, to get educated, to make money, to raise families and most of all feel safe. This is America, if we can't feel safe here, were can we feel safe?

I feel for the men and women who lost their lives in the World Trade Center, and I give it to the brave emergency workers that ran into the burning towers while thousands were running out. God is with us.

I found that I can update my server from Microsoft by using their auto update. Microsoft will provide the latest critical updates. This can be found from Microsoft Windows Update. Then click on Product Updates. It's great!!

August 9, 2001    9:10pm EST
I got the insidious virus the Code Red Virus Version 1. I had the rebuilt my system. It was awful!!!

July 6, 2001    12:30pm EST
I passed!!! I got CCNA. Here's my study guide for CCNA. I can't believe it. It was difficult. But I did it. Next is the MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) 2000.

June 16, 2001    7:20pm EST
My server is working just, but my CD burner is acting up. I also installed a slot fan cooler. It will keep the PC 15 degrees cooler on the inside.

June 3, 2001    1:20pm EST
I've haven't gotten any errors for the  pass two months. My web server seems to be very stable. I've also been studying like crazy and extremely hard for the CCNA. It's tough!

April 2, 2001    10:35pm EST
I guess I could get upset for getting errors, getting plagued with problem on computers. Now, I find it a challenge. It seems that someone out there..., someone, somebody, some company on the internet has a solution. That's what makes a good tech. If you can't fix it... find a solution. Because in the real world just like my wife they don't understand the inner workings of a PC. All they know, is that computer better be working by the the time they get on there. And I usually document all my solutions or resolutions. I've created my personal knowledgebase called Rodan.

April 1, 2001    2:45pm EST
I'm just plague with problems. As you know I also write music. Well I had a Hard drive that had some music I was looking for. I temporarily installed the Hard disk on my wife's computer. It was a 300MB HD, it had only 30MB of data. I then copied all the information from the Hard Disk to my wife's Hard Drive. Note, all the data. I thought then, I should do a virus scan on the copied data on my wife's computer. It came up NYB non-removable boot sector virus. Of course, I'm not worried I could fix this. I scanned the temporarily installed Hard Disk, came up the same thing, NYB!

I turned off the PC, permanently placed back the CD-Rom. Turn on the PC. All I could see is a black screen with a C: in the upper left corner of the screen. I'm saying to myself "Uh-oh, if my wife finds out...I'm dead". This must be April Fools joke I'm saying myself. Oh well, I got my infamous McAfee Boot scan disk, popped in the floppy drive. Not enough memory it says. Now I'm worried. I got on my web server, started looking around the internet. I tried this, I tried that, nothing worked. I spent hours looking. I'm a dead man!!!

One trick was to try this:
Removing a Boot Sector Virus
First thing you need to do is make an UNINFECTED bootable floppy disk. You can do this by going to an uninfected machine and typing format a: /s or just sys c: a: if it is already formatted. Once you have done that copy the files fdisk.com and sys.com to the floppy disk. Be write-protect it. Once it is protected you can boot the disk and at the a: prompt type fdisk /mbr (to rewrite the master boot record) and then sys a: c: (to make the disk bootable)

This would work, but unfortunately, I partitioned the Hard Drive. Apparently, NYB virus destroys the partition table. But it did worked once. I was able to back up my wife's data. You see, we have 4 computers in the house, all networked. I keep one for backing up all my data. So now I'm not a dead man. I re-booted it did not work.

Exhausted of everything. I threw everything at this frigging sh!t virus. Finally, I went to McAfee's (NAI) website. The answer was there. I can now destroy this NYB virus. And I killed it!!!!! Once again, I'm safe.

What it was, I had an old McAfee boot scan disk (v.3.0.4) I got on my web sever created an updated McAfee Emergency Boot Disk (Download here). It had the latest DAT files and bootscan (v4.0.4) executable. The command I used at the A-prompt (a:\) after booting into DOS was bootscan c: /boot /clean /nomem <enter>. It took 7 seconds. That's it, NYB dead!!!!

After doing some investigating at Symantec. I think I know what I'm doing wrong. I can't believe it was that simple. What it was, I password protected my network drives. When I tried to do the NET USE command I didn't enter the password. I was able to see the network drive, but
not able to write to the drive. That's all it was. :)

I re-stored the registry hive files. And the server is back up on-line. On the same server I created another web site and I put the back The Vassall Page back on the server.

Accidentally, I set my (Intruder Detector) protection too high. I couldn't see my own website. It's OK now.

March 18, 2001    8:35pm EST
I'm getting pissed. But I'm actually taken advantage of this. I'm learning how to do disaster recovery for Windows 2000 Server. It's a good thing I backed up the server. I backed up only my System State Data Files by using Microsoft's own Backup Utility. I found out were to copy the backed up Windows 2000 registry file to. The registry files are kept under c:\windows\system32\config.

March 17, 2001    9:50pm EST
I'm having major problems trying to ghost my PC. I'm having a hell of time trying to get this accomplish. Every time I try, it can't dump the ghost image to the network drive and I loose my registry hive files for Windows 2000. Everything worked when I went into the Recovery Console, except I didn't know where to copy the backed registry files to. I need to learn that. If you know, email me at webmaster@oopdog.dnsq.org. It should be up later tonight.

February 11, 2001    12:05am EST
I upgraded my Web Server. I swapped the 8GB hard drive from my wife's Win98 machine (she doesn't know it). I transferred it over to Web Server. I needed more space. What I really need is two 20 gig hard drives. And Also added a link on how to create Multiple Websites using a single IP Address.

February 3, 2001    1:10pm EST
I added a link on how I built my web server using Internet Information Services 5.0 for Windows 2000. Check it out. The other links are at the bottom of the pages.

February 1, 2001    7:45am EST
I'm having problems with my host name resolution (joopdog.dnsq.org). So my current IP Address is 24.92.185.76. You don't realize how important host name are until you lose it.
I also postponed my upgrade date until February 10, 2001.

January 30, 2001    11:55pm EST
I'll be taken down the server on this day only to update some features. I'll be updating the following features:
    - The hard drive from 4GB to 8GB. It's all I have for now.
    - The memory for 64MB ram to 256MB
    - Cleaning up the Hard Drive.

January 27, 2001    1:55am EST
Again, I had to reboot the server because after checking the task manager the  memory resources was going through the roof. Running at 85 - 88%.
